What level do teachers need?
- EFL and ESL teachers: C1 or C2 is the standard at most language schools.
- Private tutors: clients and platforms typically expect C1 as a minimum.
- Teaching assistants: B2 is sometimes accepted for assistant roles.
- University lecturers teaching in a second language: C1 required at most institutions.
Which certificate is right for teachers?
General Language Certificate (€8): covers grammar, vocabulary, reading, and use of language across all six CEFR levels. Suitable for most teaching CV purposes.
AI Adaptive Certificate (€8): the test adjusts difficulty automatically across 25 questions and produces a precise level. Useful if you are unsure which level to target, or want a more accurate assessment than a fixed-level test.
Is Examinizer accepted by language schools?
Examinizer certificates are not a substitute for Cambridge CELTA, Trinity CertTESOL, or other teaching qualifications. They document language proficiency, not teaching method or classroom skills. Many private language schools and online tutoring platforms accept them as a proficiency indicator alongside teaching credentials. For roles requiring CELTA or equivalent, those credentials are separate.
Common questions
Most language schools do not require a certificate from native speakers if you hold a recognised teaching qualification. Some online platforms ask for one as a standardised check. If in doubt, ask the employer.
For many countries, yes, particularly for private language schools and corporate training roles. For state school positions in some countries, an officially accredited qualification may be required. Check the specific requirements of the employer and country.
